Here’s a little clip from the writing sessions for our new album “Still Amazed”. Working on tracking a lead in an instrumental called “Rebirth”:

We just passed our 1-year anniversary of officially becoming known to the world and looking back on that journey brings ear to ear smiles to our faces. We are incredibly humbled by the tens of thousands of people we’ve reached and made connections with through our music; you guys are truly fucking amazing and the only way we know how to show our thanks and appreciation is to keep pumping out free tracks for you to rage to!!

That brings us to today and we have some exciting stuff to share…

So we’ve been dropping tracks like crazy, 19 since last August, and we don’t intend to slow down despite the recent lag over the past month. The reason is that we’ve been buttoning things up for 2 new 5-song EP’s! The first is going to be “Midnight Remixed” which will feature 5 remixes of tracks from our debut record Midnight Insight. 4 are coming from other artists such as Play Me Records’ & Boston’s own TBMA (The Bolivian Marching Affair) and we are doing one as well. The remixes we’ve already gotten back SLAM and we can’t wait to share with you. After that comes Versus Vol. II which will be the opposite of Volume I in that the first was all vocal remixes and these will all be acapella instrumental remixes, some of which you may have already heard from us and some new.

We’re truly stoked to be releasing these 2 EP’s but what we are MOST excited to share is that in the last week of July, we will be heading back to where we were on vacation and the idea of NU.F.O. was born: in Long Island, NY. We’re mobilizing the studio and moving it to an obscenely awesome house on the water to “dive into” our second original album (pun intended ). We’re anxious to write some new stuff from scratch and especially with all the new influence and production toys we’ve acquired since the last album. We promise this one is going to be a monster! You’ll be able to hear a sample of what we’re talking about when you hear our new remix for the Midnight Remixed EP.

Again, we cannot express enough gratitude for all the new friends we’ve made, support we’ve received and we look forward to the next year with you friends, old and new.

Just did a test listen to the mastered full record in the truck. Speechless.

So with the mixes finally finalized, last Wednesday we went into M-Works in Cambridge to audition mastering on a track. Jonathan has an incredible resume of artists he’s added his polishing touch on for decades including Nirvana, David Bowie and Godsmack to name a few. We spent a little over an hour working on the track and it sounded much more vivid and sparkly. Once we took it out and checked the translation in various stereos, we realized in compromise of cleaning up the track a bit some of the mix dynamics were changed and not as good as before. This is in no way saying we weren’t thrilled with what he did on the track, it just led us to ultimately deciding to master the record ourselves because we can still have complete control over the mixes while mastering to wind up with the best sounding final product.

So that brings us to today. We’re back in the studio banging it out. We intend to walk out of here tonight (or tomorrow morning, lol) with the mastered finished record. That means it’s coming to you within days. Are you ready? We are.

I’ve snuck into the studio with Alex on short notice to bang out a final few tweaks on the mixes. Being a perfectionist musician can be quite the battle with oneself. One that usually lasts each night until the sun comes up. But I love it. Creating art in a fashion that allows you the room for indefinite revision to bring it up to your idea of perfection is a trip. The past couple of tweak sessions have mostly been stuff probably nobody else would have heard or noticed. To anyone who is familiar with audio production, we’ve been hearing and adjusting levels down to the quarter dB. That’s insane, haha. Nonetheless, my ears won’t allow a single blip to slip through that doesn’t sound perfect in the mix or else every time I listen to the record I’ll hear it and it’ll bug me. It’s a curse but awesome at the same time.

I can confidently say that tonight is in fact, the last round of tweaks. The record will be complete and ready for mastering. You can expect to have this invading your ears this month. We are overwhelmingly eager and excited to share.

It has been a ridiculous weekend off from reality filled with shows, beers, fishing, four loko, birthday celebration, lakehouse party action, grilling, bonfires and amazing times with amazing friends. Today, we close out this escape by heading back into the studio with Alex to tweak and revise the mixes. We then have to test listen and hopefully give it the final thumbs up before sending it off to mastering. These are exciting times – we are beyond eager to share the story of Luci Dormir’s Midnight Insight.
